Rodradar is revolutionizing the construction industry with the world’s first excavator bucket featuring ground-penetrating radar (GPR) technology. This advanced solution promises to significantly reduce the risks of hitting underground utilities while digging. The company recently announced that the cutting-edge Live Dig Radar (LDR) bucket is now available for global orders, and the demand is rapidly increasing.
The innovative LDR bucket was first showcased at ConExpo 2023, where it captured the attention of contractors and industry professionals alike. Developed in collaboration with AMI Attachments, the bucket integrates seamlessly with excavation machines to provide real-time scanning capabilities. By detecting underground utilities and identifying their depth and distance, the bucket allows operators to dig with greater confidence and precision.
Rodradar’s collaboration with equipment manufacturer Engcon further enhances the functionality of this system. The integration of the LDR with Engcon’s quick-coupler and tiltrotator systems allows for smoother, safer, and more efficient digging operations. The quick-coupler system will be available in the first quarter of the year, with the tiltrotator system rolling out later. This partnership represents a major leap forward in construction technology, combining automation, safety, and operational excellence.
The LDR bucket’s radar is located on the bottom of the bucket and scans the ground when the excavator moves it over an area. With the push of a button on a touchscreen, the system provides a detailed map of underground utilities, including their depth and distance from the excavator. Operators are alerted with a clear visual and audio warning if a utility is detected, making it easier to avoid strikes and damage.
This groundbreaking technology has already been tested by contractors in the U.S., including Skanska at the JFK International Airport renovation project in New York. Rodradar has been actively training contractors on how to use this advanced technology to maximize safety and efficiency on job sites.
With the ability to detect and map underground utilities, the LDR bucket promises to transform how excavation projects are handled, minimizing the risks associated with accidental utility strikes and helping companies save time and money.
