Every Caterpillar customer has a unique journey, but few are as intertwined with Cat machines as DXT, a top construction and civil engineering company in the Nordic region.
Peter Hedendahl, co-owner of DXT, grew up with a passion for Cat dozers, having started in his father’s construction business at a young age. Some of his earliest memories are of riding alongside his father in a Cat D7 dozer cab, which ignited his lifelong love for the machines.
The Early Years
Peter started working for his father at 16 and eventually took over the family business when his father retired in the 1970s. At the time, the company was a one-man operation, and Peter was responsible for everything from forestry to gravel pits, roads, railroads, and even airport construction. His equipment fleet consisted of just two Cat machines: a D8 dozer and a Cat 953 Track Loader. Peter never imagined that he could one day afford a D10 dozer, which he considered too large for his needs.
However, in 2016, Peter’s career took an unexpected turn. A friend informed him of an opportunity to purchase a D10T dozer from a mining company going out of business in Northern Sweden. Peter and his business partners pooled their resources, placed a bid on the machine, and won it. This significant acquisition led them to name their new company DXT, a tribute to the Cat D10T dozer that played a pivotal role in their success.
DXT Today
Over the years, DXT has evolved, but Peter’s loyalty to Cat machines has remained unwavering. Today, the company’s fleet includes three D6s, three D8s, three D10s, as well as a Cat excavator and scraper.
In late 2023, Peter and a representative from Zeppelin, his Cat dealer, took a 12-hour flight from Stockholm to Peoria, Illinois, to see the latest addition to DXT’s fleet: the first Next Gen Cat D10 to be sold in Europe. During the factory tour, Peter was thrilled to see his machine on the assembly line and even had the opportunity to sign its frame.
Why Cat?
When asked why the Next Gen D10 was the perfect addition to DXT’s fleet, Peter’s answer was simple: “Everything!” He praised the continuous improvements that Caterpillar makes to its machines, from advanced technology to enhanced safety features and increased efficiency. The new D10 is expected to save a significant amount of fuel, providing a unique selling point for DXT’s clients.
In addition to the equipment itself, DXT also invests in Customer Value Agreements (CVAs) from Zeppelin, which Peter finds invaluable. He appreciates the support and maintenance services provided by Zeppelin, noting that they keep his machines running smoothly and efficiently.
Peter sums up his relationship with Zeppelin and Cat machines in one sentence: “We are friends and family.”
